A baby-bride-to-be escaped what may have been her worst nightmare.
Last February, a lady–recognized solely by her surname, Yang–met an 11-year-old woman in Guizhou, a southwestern province in China. Afterward, Yang approached the woman’s household to ask for the woman’s hand in marriage for her son, who was 27 years outdated on the time. The woman’s father refused the proposal, however Yang didn’t take no for a solution.
Yang and her son waited till the woman was residence alone and kidnapped her. The son then introduced the woman again to the house he and his mom share in Yunnan, situated over 4 hours away. After spending 4 days there, the woman was rescued and Yang was arrested. Her son turned himself in to the police 4 days later.
Months later, on December 15, 2023, Yang and her son each acquired jail sentences for baby abduction. Yang was sentenced by the Shuicheng District Court in Liupanshui to 2 years in jail, whereas her son acquired a seven-month jail. The case sparked public outcry, with many netizens slamming the courtroom for giving baby traffickers such lenient sentences.
Unfortunately, that is removed from the primary time a toddler has been given willingly or kidnapped in China with the intention of marrying her off. Despite being banned in 1950, the custom of households adopting feminine kids to lift as future wives for his or her sons nonetheless continues in rural areas.
