North Korea Allegedly Gave Orders To Use The Itaewon Tragedy To Undermine South Korean President Yoon Suk Yeol

North Korean operatives reportedly received an order to use the Itaewon Tragedy to muster up support for ousting current South Korean President Yoon Suk Yeol.

According to an MBN report released on February 22, anti-spy agents allege North Korea had ordered a “Mr. Kim,” and his fellow alleged North Korean operatives to use the Itaewon Tragedy to “Create a second candlelight demonstration and to create a nationwide protest.”

“Candlelight” demonstrations refer to the nationwide protest that led to the impeachment of former conservative president Park Geun Hye, who was mired in controversy regarding her ties to shamanism and corruption.

According to the report, the defense attorney for “Mr.Kim” has denied these allegations and claimed the charges were “One-sided allegations” that they will disprove in court.

Last month the National Intelligence Service arrested two alleged members of a group sympathetic to North Korea on charges of working as operatives for North Korea. The members are alleged to have received orders from North Korea through operatives in Cambodia and other South East Asian countries.

Previously, on the night of October 29, 158 people were tragically killed in a crowd crush in Itaewon that traumatized the nation. South Korean President Yoon Suk Yeol, government officials, and the police were criticized for their response to the tragedy, with many lamenting the lack of accountability.

South Korea’s relationship with North Korea has increasingly become estranged during South Korean President Yoon Suk Yeol’s tenure. According to The New York Times, in 2022, North Korea launched at least 95 missiles, with the majority of them being ballistic missile tests, the most in the country’s history.
