Seoul Fashion Week has become a global fashion phenomenon, showcasing the latest trends and designs from Korean and international designers alike. With a growing interest in Korean fashion and culture, the return of Seoul Fashion Week from March 15 to 19 this year was eagerly anticipated by fashion enthusiasts around the world. Here are some of the trends spotted on the runways and celebrity guests that graced the front rows!
NewJeans as the face of Seoul Fashion Week
NewJeans was appointed as the ambassadors of Seoul Fashion Week (SFW), joining the prestigious list of former representatives such as EXO’s Kai, Bae Doona, Lee Jung Jae, and Kwon Sang Woo. This marks the first time that a K-pop group was chosen to represent the fashion event. Known for their fashion-forward style and unique concept, NewJeans brought their own flair to the event and generated even more interest in both K-pop and Korean fashion. At the blue carpet event, NewJeans was spotted wearing modern utilitarian inspired looks, with onlookers gushing about how model-esque the members are.
Senior models dominating the runways
In Korea, senior models age 60 and up are making waves in the fashion industry, with their striking looks and confident presence dominating runways and ads. Breaking ageist stereotypes and challenging beauty standards, these models are proving that age is just a number and that fashion is for everyone. With their growing popularity, they are inspiring a new generation to embrace their own unique beauty and style.
MMAM is one of the brands that featured senior models.
True to its individualistic, rebellious, and nonconformist style, AJOBYAJO featured a variety of models, embracing different looks and breaking away from typical model standards.
Aside from celebrity models and fashion, there’s another thing that captured everyone’s attention: cute teddy bears. Renowned designer LIE collaborated with the Teddy Bear Museum in Korea, incorporating these fuzzy toys on the garments while keeping with his message of sustainable fashion and animal preservation.
Meanwhile, Greedilous collaborated with Ocon, an animation studio that brought the famous Pororo characters to life. The brand is known for its bright and eclectic prints, and this perfectly suited the fun and colorful characters that both kids and adults will surely love.
The designer for DOUCAN explained his unique inspiration for his dramatic and maximalist collection: “I was inspired by the mediums that develop my design sensibility: the deep flavor of whiskey, the sweetness of dark chocolate, the gloomy jazz melody, the strong scent of coffee, and the sound of string instruments.”
Does this brand look familiar? That’s because it was featured in the finale of the drama “The Fabulous,” starring Chae Soo Bin, Park Hee Jung, Lee Sang Un, and Minho! The designer also dressed many Korean celebs like IU and BLACKPINK’s Rosé.
Genderless fashion is a growing trend in Korea, challenging traditional gender norms and promoting inclusivity. Many Korean designers are incorporating genderless elements into their collections, blurring the lines between masculine and feminine fashion. As this trend continues to gain momentum, it is fostering a more open and accepting fashion culture in Korea.
“Singles Inferno 2” reunion
It seems like the popular cast of “Singles Inferno 2” reunited once again thanks to Park Sejeong, who walked the runway for several brands this season. The interactions are super cute as it seems like they remained close friends, and the rest planned to support her by watching the shows.
A family affair
Another cute moment is when renowned actresses Chae Rim and Eugene brought their kids along to watch the shows!
Walking their own runway
Members of Rocket Punch wore designer outfits as guests of the Hi Seoul Collection and did a quick runway challenge before attending the show!
Stand out blue carpet arrivals included Luna, actress Kang Sora, Dal Shabet’s Serri, and AleXa, all of whom posed in front of the cameras in colorful ensembles.
Son Dam Bi and Seohyun were spotted keeping it chill and casual in jeans and black jackets.
