He calls himself a “successful rapist” in the clip.

Korean-American artist and actor David Choe, one of the stars of the new Netflix drama series, Beef, shocked fans after a video clip of the star discussing and “bragging” about committing sexual assault resurfaced online.

Choe is one of the many stars appearing alongside Steven Yeun and Ali Wong in the series written by Korean director Lee Sung Jin about the fallout from a road rage incident. The miniseries was uploaded to Netflix in its entirety on April 6 and has received good reviews from viewers.

A few weeks after its release, a now-viral clip from one of Choe’s other projects, a podcast titled DVDASA, caught viewers’ attention after it was shared online.

In the video, Choe and co-host Asa Akira discuss an encounter with a female masseuse, with Choe saying that he allegedly forced her to perform oral sex on him after behaving inappropriately during his massage.

She’s definitely not into it, but she’s not stopping it either. I say, ‘Kiss it a little,’ she says, ‘No, all the massage oil is on it,’ and I take the back of her head and I push it down on my d*ck and she doesn’t do it. And I say, ‘Open your mouth, open your mouth,’ and she does it and I start facef*cking her.

In the clip, Choe states that “the thrill of possibly going to jail” excited him the most. When Akira states “You’re basically telling us that you’re a rapist right now, and the only way to get your d**k hard is rape.” Choe agrees, even going into describing the masseuse’s appearance.

Akira is still shocked by this story, saying, “Who cares what she looks like, Dave is telling us he’s a rapist.” Choe then corrects her, stating he is a “successful rapist.

This video was released in 2014, and Choe later claimed that the story was not a fact, saying they were “misinterpretation” and “bad storytelling.”

If I am guilty of anything, it’s bad storytelling in the style of douche. Just like many of my paintings are often misinterpreted, the same goes with my show. The main objective of all of my podcasts is to challenge and provoke my friends and the co-stars on the show. We f**k with each other, entertain ourselves and laugh at each other. It’s a dark, tasteless, completely irreverent show where we f**k with everyone listening, but mostly ourselves. We create stories and tell tales. It’s not a news show. It’s not a representation of my reality. It’s not the place to come for reliable information about me or my life. It’s my version of reality, it’s art that sometimes offends people. I’m sorry if anyone believed that the stories were fact. They were not!

Following protests of his works in 2017, Choe released another apology statement in a post on Instagram, repeating that he was telling a fictional story.

The original clip posted by journalist Aura Bogado has since been removed from Twitter on copyright grounds, though it has been reposted.

Following the clip resurfacing, viewers have called for a boycott of the show, saying that even if the story was a “joke” and fabricated, the content was not funny.

Neither David Choe nor Netflix has released statements on the resurfaced clips.
