As public figures, celebrities are constantly under the spotlight. Everything they do gets magnified and scrutinised, which is why they should be mindful of their behaviour in public.
Well, Chinese actor Liu Haoran certainly learned it the hard way.
The 25-year-old, who shot to popularity with 2015 Chinese comedy Detective Chinatown, was recently called out after he was caught on camera by paparazzi engaging in some, um, unsavoury behaviour while playing basketball.
According to reports, Haoran was taking a break from the sidelines mid-game.
He was seen removing his sock and scratching his foot before sniffing his fingers.
The unflattering video of him in the act went viral and his “distasteful” and “unhygienic” actions soon became a trending topic online.
It sparked such a heated discussion that Haoran released a statement through his work studio to address the matter.
“When playing ball, my toe was stepped on, so I went off court to check on it… My nose was sweaty, so I subconsciously wiped the sweat with the back of my hand,” he explained.
He acknowledged that his behaviour was indeed “inappropriate”, and that he would pay attention to his actions in future.
Many netizens felt embarrassed for Haoran, saying that he did nothing wrong and that he shouldn’t need to explain his actions.
